'Street Woman Fighter,' which gave birth to star dancers such as Honey J, Aiki, Monica, Noze, and Gabi, is returning for the second season after two years, but there are question marks over its box office success.
According to Mnet on August 5, "Street Woman Fight 2" ("SWF") has confirmed its first broadcast on August 22 and is recruiting on-site audiences.
'SWF' is a dance fight program in which eight teams compete for the position of the best dance crew, and it was first broadcast in 2021 and has produced numerous star dancers. From the crew leaders to the team members, including Honey J, known as the "Park Jae Bum Dancer," and Noze, known as the "Kai Dancer," to Aiki, Gabi, Li Jung, Monica, and Hyo Jin Choi, they have become stars.
In addition to their dance career, the dancers have been featured as regular cast members on a number of entertainment programs, and their popularity has created a dance craze in South Korea. Gabi, who appeared in Season 1, said, "There are a lot of dancers who are looking for the next season, and I hope that 'SWF' will last until Season 10 so that many dancers in the world can be highlighted." Lee Hei also wished that "there are so many wonderful dancers in Korea, and i hope everyone can know them”.
What they thought would be a quick follow-up to the show's popularity took two years. Of course, it's not like there weren't dance survival and dance shows in the meantime. Mnet alone has produced series and spin-off programs such as "SWF," "Sugalpa," "Ttuk Tuk's Counterattack," "Be Invincible," and "Street Man Fighter" since the first season.
Of course, not all of these programs were successful at the box office, and while "SWF" and "Sugappa" generated some buzz and box office success, the next series received questionable ratings. In addition, controversies such as the pinning and choreography trade controversy never ended.
In the case of "Smanpa," the show maintained its topicality with its "Sappy" dance, but its ratings continued to slump. In particular, despite the high level of topicality, the concert seats for the national tour were not sold out and seats remained available, adding to the bitterness. Although they were not without fans, they expressed regret that they were unable to continue the popularity of the "SWF" syndrome.
Not only that but the judge Stars were also criticized. BoA, who has been a judge since 'SWF', said, "The judges don't decide the battle team. Wouldn't you have done less if Bank2Brothers fell. I'm tired of thinking about this every time," and expressed her pain over the malicious comments.
This is why. From season 2, Mnet will invite the audience directly to the performance site and reflect their votes in the results. Audience members were recruited through official social media (SNS) until the 8th of this month, and the role of the audience has increased by watching and voting for the crew's dances, which were previously only seen through the broadcast.
In 2021, "SWF" won the 58th Baeksang Arts Award for Best Entertainment Work in the TV category for its portrayal of female solidarity and competition. Returning after two years, "SWF 2" will be subtitled "Stronger Women's Dance Fight" and will begin its heat hunt on August 22.
It's been two years since "SWF Syndrome. We are looking forward to seeing if 'SWF 2' will be another program that will make the tea bag with the honeydew already drained out, or if it will make Korea fall into the dance wind once again.
