Actress Song Hye-kyo and Sungshin Women's University Professor Seo Kyung-duk, who have donated Korean language guides to famous art galleries and museums around the world, announced on the 9th that they have donated Korean language guides to LACMA in the United States.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the largest art museum in the western United States with a collection of about 149,000 artworks from ancient times to the present.
The Korean-language guide includes a detailed introduction to the museum, maps, and visitor precautions, and is available free of charge to Korean visitors. It will be available soon on the museum's website.
"I used to feel embarrassed that world-class art galleries and museums have English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and other languages, but not Korean," said Professor Seo.
"We started the donation campaign to promote the status of the Korean language to the world and to help Korean tourists visit museums," he added.
"In 2006, the first Korean-language voice service was provided to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which made a big splash. Since then, we have been working together with Ms. Song Hye-kyo to carry out continuous donation campaigns."
So far, Korean language guides have been donated to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in Toronto, and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York under Professor Seo's initiative and Song Hye-kyo's support.
Meanwhile, Prof. Seo said, "We are now planning to expand beyond the United States to Europe. We will do our best until all major art galleries, museums, and tourist destinations around the world have Korean language services," he said.
