After Halloween, music lovers can anticipate a festival that will feature South Korean and Filipino artists on the same stage.
South Korea's EXO member SUHO, Seori, MeloMance, and wave to earth, as well as the Philippines' Ben&Ben, Moira Dela Torre, Darren, and Adie, will headline the ON Festival OFF: Manila on November 3 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena beginning at noon.
ABS-CBN Global and the South Korean entertainment brand KAMP are collaborating on the inaugural music festival.
Each performer will take the stage for at least forty minutes. In addition, pre-show performances by emerging ABS-CBN Music artists Maki, Cesca, Nameless Kids, and SAB will be featured.
According to ABS-CBN Global COO Aldrin Cerrado, the concept for the impending all-day music event is based on Western music festivals where attendees can enjoy a musical and cultural experience indoors. The festival will also feature a variety of musical genres and artists.
Cerrado stated in a press conference, "Expect a very unique, diverse, yet enjoyable music festival."
"Imagine that this is an indoor music festival where people are free to enter and exit the arena, as there is undoubtedly a change between each (performance) and many different (genres). It's the first time we've actually done this, and it's a music festival held indoors. You are familiar with outdoor music festivals. This event is an indoor music festival, he emphasized.
Tim Kim, chief executive officer of KAMP, on the other hand, stated that the music festival is only the beginning, as they intend to expand it into a global event.
"We are planning and investigating various cities throughout the globe. "Aldrin and I envision the ON Festival as a global festival where we can bring not only more artists, but also artists of various genres and from different countries," he explained.
They are also investigating the possibility of future musical collaborations between Korean and Filipino musicians.
"Yes, we are already investigating some opportunities. And we eagerly anticipate creating collaboration initiatives and bringing these opportunities to the stage more frequently," Kim added.
The music festival is consistent with ABS-CBN's mission to promote Filipino artists internationally. As Cerrado elaborated, "It does not only refer to Filipinos from the Philippines, but also Filipinos from around the world."
Tim and I have been discussing this. And the best way is to place them on a platform where they are discovered not only by Filipino fans, but also by non-Filipino fans. Therefore, if you place them alongside international artists, their discoverability increases and their reach expands," he continued.
"Thus, this is identical to what we did for the other festival, but this one is very distinct because it is a collaboration between Korea and the Philippines. And we are the first to do this in the Philippines. And as the moniker suggests, festival is 'on' and Manila is 'off'. "Therefore, 'off' means that it can go somewhere other than Manila."
KAMP has been extremely active in the Philippines over the past few years. The entertainment company formed the P-pop boy band Hori7on as part of Kapamilya's survival reality program Dream Maker.
Kim considers the Philippines to be his second home due to his frequent visits here for ABS-CBN partnership initiatives. Consequently, it is "very natural" for his team to deliver the inaugural ON Music Festival to Manila.
"Furthermore, to elaborate on the name ON, it signifies all, the whole, tenderness, and also No. 100 in Korea. Under the theme of a celebration of a passion for music, we created and named this festival ON," he said.
He also mentioned the similarities between Koreans and Filipinos, in particular their shared passion for music. "In our culture, Koreans are music lovers. And through my experiences in the Philippines, I've learned that music plays an enormous role in Philippine culture. And I sensed there was a great deal of similarity," Kim said.
"And I wanted to establish a first-of-its-kind opportunity, a platform, as Aldrin put it, where we can cross borders and share a passion for music. As a result, we prefer that the first festival be held in Manila," he concluded.
