G-Dragon is taking legal action against reports of alleged evidence tampering by removing his body hair.
According to previous reports, G-Dragon is facing suspicion for concealing evidence of potential drug use by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Department. Last month, he was booked by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency on the charges of using drugs illegally, and two days later, G-Dragon's lawyers denied the allegations. Earlier this week, G-Dragon then voluntarily underwent investigations at the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's Narcotics Unit and provided samples to the National Forensic Service for analysis.
On November 10, media outlets reported G-Dragon had shaved off all his body hair before visiting the police station, and the police are now suspecting he shaved his body hair to tamper with evidence as that would prevent his body hair from being tested for drugs. His lawyer Kim Soo Hyun has now released a statement refuting the claims of evidence tampering and announced their intention to take legal action against false reports.
Lawyer Kim Soo Hyun's statement is as follows:
"There were reports today claiming G-Dragon shaved his body hair except the hair on his head before the police investigation and that police have raised suspicions of him attempting to tamper with evidence.
The reports of him shaving his entire body is completely untrue. Furthermore, the court rejected this case due to a lack of evidence, and consequently, no search and seizure warrant related to hair has been issued. Despite this, Kwon Ji Yong believed that by swiftly revealing the truth he can eliminate speculation, and he voluntarily underwent police questioning and cooperated with the investigation by submitting not only urine and hair samples but also nails and toenails. Additionally, he even expressed his willingness to provide additional samples, including leg hair, beyond the head hair samples initially requested by the police.
Despite reports from the police implying Kwon Ji Yong shaved his body hair with the intention of tampering with evidence, it's important to note he maintained hair of enough length for verification and willingly submitted hair in the amount requested by the police. Furthermore, despite his statement during voluntary questioning he had not been dyeing or bleaching his hair, media reports suggested, 'Depending on the length of the hair, it's possible to confirm one's use of drugs for up to about a year. However, if one frequently undergoes coloring or bleaching due to the nature of their profession, the drug components may decrease.' We want to clearly state that in the past approximately 1 year and 5 months, Kwon Ji Yong's hair did not undergo any coloring or bleaching.
Additionally, Kwon Ji Yong stated during police questioning he usually shaves his body hair. However, since the investigation was first reported and initiated, he has not shaved at all. Despite clearly expressing no intention to tamper with evidence, the police reached conclusions and employed language suggesting G-Dragon attempted to tamper with evidence to conceal a crime, constituting a serious case of defamation. Despite this, inaccurate reports conflicting with the actual facts were released without prior confirmation from Kwon Ji Yong's side, which we find regrettable.
To conclude, the police's claim that G-Dragon shaved his entire body to conceal evidence is completely groundless, and as of now, the initial article that first reported this has been corrected.
In the future, we will take strong legal action against speculative reporting. We request that the media engage in responsible and cautious reporting based on facts to prevent irreparable harm to G-Dragon, who is a prominent public figure."
