Netizens are expressing outrage over the technical production of this year's 'SBS Gayo Daejeon.'
On an online forum, netizens are showing their frustration over numerous technical mishaps during this year's 'SBS Gayo Daejeon,' which impacted several idol groups, including NCT, The Boyz, and Stray Kids.
The mishaps ranged from NCT's Ten nearly injuring himself by falling into an open lift pit on a dimly lit stage to a NewJeans song unexpectedly playing during Stray Kids' performance.
Fans were also particularly upset about the camera failing to capture a significant part of The Boyz member Juyeon's solo dance routine by instead showing a random 4-second shot of the audience members.
Juyeon's dance routine had featured a challenging one-handed cartwheel over a rope, which ultimately did not make the live broadcast. According to the fans, Juyeon had even expressed nervousness about it on '
Bubble
' before the show, stating, "Ah, today I am a bit nervous," revealing his own efforts and anticipation for the performance.
The camerawork during Juyeon's stage clearly proved to be a glaring production error, with out-of-focus shots, dark lighting, and unclear subjects.
Fellow The Boyz member Eric also indirectly expressed similar sentiments on 'Bubble,' with the messages:
"Did you watch our performance? Mm...I have the same thoughts. I have a lot to say but I won't say it. [...] I mean... that part was the coolest part of our Juyeon hyung's five LED rope performance... T_T."
While the footage of the NewJeans song mishap during Stray Kids' performance was eventually deleted online, fans were incensed about the overall camerawork during the boy group's performance. At one point, the camera briefly captured an empty stage while Stray Kids were performing on a completely different part of the venue, as seen below.
Viewers of the program remarked that the overall lighting and the camera direction of 'SBS Gayo Daejeon' was "poorly done," as if "this was their first time airing a live end-of-year music show." Some labeled the production as "amateur," "utterly disastrous," and "legendary" by a different definition, saying that "a rehearsal for this show turned out to be pointless," given the number of mishaps that occurred.
More reactions include:
"The audio and the camerawork were legendary tonight. A pure disaster"
"This is abominable"
"You can tell that Juyeon put so much hard work into this performance, and they ruined it"
"How many mistake did they make???"
"The most technically disastrous end-of-year music show in history"
"Why did they even do a rehearsal if they were going to be this careless?"
"I feel so bad for the artists who all must have worked so hard"
"I'm not even surprised by the bad audio and camerawork at this point but some of these mistakes had a disastrous effect on the artists"
"Lol were they crazy"
"Why shoot an empty stage during Stray Kids' performance? lmao"
"LOL I was so shocked to hear a NewJeans song during the SKZ performance"
"What amateurs"
"I'm so mad on behalf of Juyeon"
