In a decision hearing held by Criminal Division 3 of the Jinju branch of the Changwon District Court on March 5 KST, Mr. A, a man in his 60s, faced prosecution seeking a one-year prison sentence. Mr. A was indicted on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act and the Information and Communications Network Act (defamation) in relation to Trot singer Oh Yu Jin (15).
The prosecution outlined Mr. A's actions, stating that from May of last year until recently, he falsely claimed that Oh Yu Jin was his daughter, visited her school, and repeatedly called her maternal grandmother to request meetings. Additionally, Mr. A is accused of defaming Oh Yu Jin by posting false messages online questioning her biological parentage.
Prosecutors emphasized the severity of the crimes, citing their prolonged duration and the young age of the victim. They also noted the significant mental distress experienced by Oh Yu Jin and her family.
In defense, Mr. A's lawyer expressed remorse on behalf of his client, acknowledging the wrongdoing and attributing it to subjective beliefs. He highlighted that Mr. A ceased his actions upon realizing the objective truth and appealed for leniency.
In his final statement, Mr. A expressed his apologies for his actions. The sentencing hearing for Mr. A is scheduled for April 9.
Meanwhile, Oh Yu Jin gained recognition through her participation in KBS2's 'National Trot Festival', where she secured third place, and is currently gearing up for the final stage of TV Chosun's 'Miss Trot 3'.
