Singer Eru is facing 1 year in prison for his DUI.
According to reports on March 7, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Eru to 1 year in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of 100,000 won ($75.23 USD) for driving under the influence of alcohol, upholding the prosecution's request. In his previous trial, he was sentenced to 6 months of prison, probation, and a sentence of 100,000 won, but the court is reconsidering the punishment as too lenient.
Eru's lawyer stated, "He confessed to the crime as a first-time offender, and since his debut as a singer, he's been active as a leading K-pop singer in Indonesia, contributing to enhancing national prestige. His mother is also suffering from dementia, and she's very dependent on her son, the defendant."
In September of 2022, Eru was caught driving drunk in Youngsan-gu, Seoul. He was later indicted without detention for colluding with 34-year-old female professional golfer Park to mislead police into believing she was the one behind the wheel. Later the same year in December, the singer was involved in another controversy in which he allowed a colleague to drive his car while drunk. At the time, he personally apologized and announced his hiatus.
The sentencing date for Eru's case is set for March 26 KST
