We have all been in situations where we root for the second lead more than the main male lead. Come on, we must have watched so many K-dramas praying that our favorite beloved second lead gets the girl. But let’s face it: Something like that is a rarity. It hardly happens, but when it does, it feels so good.

It is a period drama series focusing on the trio Wang Won (Im Siwan), Wang Rin (Hong Jong Hyun), and Eun San (Im Yoona). The bromance in the show is intense, it will make you root not just for the second lead but for Won and Rin’s friendship as well. This makes the ending bittersweet yet fresh, with the female lead ending up with the second lead.

The show focuses on the lives of five friends and their families as they walk through the challenges of adolescence, friendship, and bonds. Many were rooting for Deok Sun (Lee Hyeri) and Jung Hwan to become a couple, but he missed his chance, and ultimately, Deok Sun fell in love with their friend, Choi Taek (Park Bogum).

Empress Ki (2013)

The initial episodes of the musical drama focused a little more on Jin Guk (Ok Taecyeon), having many call him the main lead. There are dramas where the lines between the main lead and the second lead can blur, and this is one of them.
