On October 24 KST, the first hearing for former B.A.P member, Himchan, pertaining to his third charge of forcible harassment took place. A sense of tension permeated the courtroom as both sides readied their positions for the impending trial.
On the morning of October 24, the 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court, proceeded with the trial. Himchan is accused of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Rape and Sexual Violence Crimes. The charges include illicit filming using cameras and committing obscene acts using communication media.
In the courtroom proceedings, Himchan admitted to the charges and announced that they were making an effort to reach a settlement with the victim. In contrast, the victim strongly opposed this approach, demanding that the court sentence severe punishment to Himchan.
The allegations against Himchan involve sexually harassing a woman in Seoul around May of the previous year, unlawfully filming her, and subsequently circulating the photographs.
In the wake of these developments, the court proceeded with a decision to amalgamate this case with Himchan's second sexual crime case. The previous case involved Himchan allegedly sexually harassing two women at a bar in Seoul. Following the incident, the victims immediately reported to the police that Himchan had inappropriately touched their chest and waist.
In response to these allegations, Himchan confessed to the charges, paid settlement fees of 10 million won to each of the victims, submitted a settlement agreement, and appealed for leniency from the court. Earlier, Himchan was sentenced to a 10-month prison term related to his first charge of forcible molestation.
The court has announced that it will merge the cases and hearing will resume at 10:40 AM on November 21 KST.
