The popular girl group BLACKPINK heated up the stage as headliners (signboard performers) at America’s largest music festival ‘Coachella Valley and Arts Festival’, which they returned to after 4 years.
BLACKPINK appeared as the last performer of the day at the event held in California on April 15th (local time) and received cheers from fans. Since 1999, Coachella has been the largest festival in the United States, attracting more than 200,000 spectators every year.
In an article titled "Blackpink writes a new history as a celebratory headliner at Coachella 2023," the US Billboard reported, "Blackpink became the first Korean singer to headline a K-pop girl group at the Coachella Festival."
Rosé said, “We were first invited to perform for you in the Coachella Sahara tent four years ago, and it left a deep impression on all of us.” The reason the four of us are here is because of you.”
Jennie said, "I'm really happy to be back. It's really unbelievable to come from the Sahara to the main stage in 4 years. I love you, Coachella.”
Initially, due to technical problems, the start time was delayed, but at 9:24, fans' light-up bracelets began to glow pink. At 9:28, a single word “BLACKPINK” rang through the speaker. And at 9:30, the stage went dark. Finally, the performance where Blackpink sparked began.
BLACKPINK opened the concert with the pre-released song from their 2nd album, 'Pink Venom', followed by 'Kill This Love', 'How You Like That', 'Pretty Savage'.and other hit songs. Fans sang in unison throughout the night and enjoyed the performance.
Billboard said, “Through this historic and monumental stage, Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa focused on what they can do best as BLACKPINK, which is to make Blinks visible.” We made it so that each individual's individuality could be revealed on one of the biggest stages in the world.”
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is conducting the largest-ever world tour of a K-pop girl group with a total of more than 1.5 million people.
BLACKPINK additionally confirmed encore performances at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, USA on August 12, Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on August 18, Oracle Park in San Francisco on August 22, and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on August 26. As a result, BLACKPINK met fans in 18 concerts in 10 cities in North America alone.
